Troubleshooting

I get a message that says something like "There is something wrong with with Virtix Bravo." Why do I get this message?
The name of the OS 9 plugin is "Virtix Bravo Classic." The name of the OS X plugin is "Virtix Bravo."

If you get the message "There is something wrong with Virtix Bravo Classic", this almost certainly means that you are in OS X and the OS 9 version of the plugin is installed. If you get the message "There is something wrong with Virtix Bravo", this almost certainly means that you are in OS 9 and the OS X version of the plugin is installed.

How did the wrong version of the plugin get installed?
iMovie looks in several different folders for plugins. Different versions of iMovie search different folders. The iMovie folder, not surprisingly, is one of the folders that is searched for plugins. The most common way that the plugin for the wrong OS gets installed is that the user downloads our software and puts the whole folder (which contains both OS 9 and OS X plugins) in the iMovie folder, which iMovie interprets as an attempt to install both kinds of plugins.
How do I solve this problem?
The simplest solution to this problem is to use Sherlock (or a Find File utility) to search for the offending plugin and delete it (or move it to someplace where iMovie will not see it). So if you are in OS 9, keep all the copies of "Virtix Bravo Classic" and delete all the copies of "Virtix Bravo." If you are in OS X, keep all the copies of "Virtix Bravo" and delete all the copies of "Virtix Bravo Classic."
I get multiple copies of each effect in my iMovie menus. How do I fix this?
This is because you have multiple copies of the plugin installed. The simplest solution to this problem is to use Sherlock (or a Find File utility) to search for all copies of the plugin ("Virtix Bravo" if using OS X, "Virtix Bravo Classic" if using OS 9). Delete one of the duplicates and restart iMovie. Continue this process until only one set of effects appears in the menus.
This troubleshooting page uses Virtix Bravo as the example plugin, but the information here is just as applicable to Virtix Echo, Virtix Zoom, Virtix Pan & Scan, Virtix 16x9 and Virtix Spectra.
